Additional Treatments Offered

Also know as manual therapy. Our joints can stiffen up for a number of reasons. This treatment involves passive movement to a specific joint (peripheral or spinal) to reduce pain and improve movement

Demand on our bodies due to work, exercise and lifestyle can result in stress on soft tissues (muscle, ligament) as well as our joints. This can in itself result in pain and disability. Soft tissue mobilisation is a specific technique used to reduce pain caused by these problems. We use a combination of techniques such as myofascial trigger point release, cupping, specific soft tissue mobilisations and massage. We also assess muscle imbalances and make suggestions as to how you can improve the function of a muscle.

Acupuncture is a clinically proven method of treatment and is used in our clinic to treat musculoskeletal pain. Inserting and stimulating needles into specific points sends impulses along nerves to the spinal cord and brain setting up reflex patterns. It also causes the release of a number of hormones into the system. Firstly endorphins are released which are your own natural pain relievers and anti-inflammatory agents. Secondly serotonin levels increase, having a direct effect on mood and causing an increased sense of wellbeing.

Electrotherapy machines are used to promote tissue healing and reduce pain.

Physiotherapists are excellent at identifying movement dysfunctions. Your physiotherapist will prescribe a specific strengthening exercise or stretch to aid in your recovery.

Posture correction, ergonomic advice, sports training and footwear advice is all part of your treatment here at the Leeds Physiotherapy and Pilates Practice.

Certain activities/posture types can create a muscle imbalance. This means that over time certain muscles may become overactive and tight and cause other muscles to weaken, which can create pain. As an athlete these problems can severely affect performance. An assessment of your specific strengths and weaknesses can allow us to tailor you an exercises programme specific to your needs. This is also used as a way of preventing injuries!

Here at the practice we have a rehabilitation gym. The gym has equipment used to treat sports injuries, post operative rehabilitation, pre operative strengthening and conditioning. Our specialists lower limb physiotherapists see lot of patients that have undergone lower limb surgery to ensure they recover back to full function. We work alongside your surgeon to provide the highest level of care.

All of our physiotherapists are trained in sports massage. By seeing a physiotherapists for sports massage we can also offer you advice on injury prevention, and assess the underlying cause for your problem area. The benefits of sports massage are:
